Emma Watson/ Hermione Week! 43 days!

“Oh my God, no, no chance, no chance. That's not in my contract!” (On kissing her co-star)

They were so busy that Hermione had stopped knitting elf hats and was fretting that she was down to her last three.
"All those poor elves I haven't set free yet, having to stay over during Christmas because there aren't enough hats!"

"Just because it's taken you three years to notice, Ron, doesn't mean no one else has spotted I'm a girl!"



"The fates have informed me that your examination in June will concern the Orb, and I am anxious to give you sufficient practice.
Hermione snorted.
"Well honestly... 'the fates have informed her'... Who sets the exam? She does!"

"Twitchy little ferret, aren't you, Malfoy?"

"Malfoy's got detention! I could sing."



"There you are! Where have you been? The most ridiculous rumors--someone said you'd been expelled for crashing a flying car--"
"Well, we haven't been expelled," Harry assured her.
"You're not telling me you did fly here?" said Hermione, sounding almost as severe as Professor McGonagall.
"Skip the lecture," said Ron impatiently, "and tell us the new password."
"It's 'wattlebird,'" said Hermione impatiently, "but that's not the point--"

"Grawp's about sixteen feet tall, enjoys ripping up twenty-foot pine trees, and knows me," she snorted, "as Hermy."

"Imagine losing fingernails, Harry! That really puts our sufferings into perspective, doesn't it?"

"Harry--you're a great wizard, you know."
"I'm not as good as you," said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let him go.
"Me!" said Hermione. "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things--friendship and bravery and--oh Harry--be careful!"

• Hermione is pronounced "Her-MY-oh-knee."
• Hermione is a name from Shakespeare chosen because Hermione needed an unusual name.
• Hermione’s name is from Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale, but "my Hermione bears very little relation to *that* Hermione, but it just seemed the sort of name that a pair of professional dentists, who liked to prove how clever they were ... do you know what I mean ... gave their daughter a nice, unusual name that no-one could pronounce!" Hermione needed an unusual name because she was so snotty and annoying.
• About S.P.E.W.: Hermione thinks helping people is easy, but "she blunders towards the very people she's trying to help." Jo and her sister went through a stage like this.
• JKR: "Mostly they [kids] are really worried about Ron. As if I'm going to kill Harry's best friend. What I find interesting is only once has anyone said to me, "Don't kill Hermione," and that was after a reading when I said no one's ever worried about her... They see her as someone who is not vulnerable, but I see her as someone who does have quite a lot of vulnerability in her personality."
• JKR: "Hermione gave me a lot of trouble!" laughed Rowling. "She was really misbehaving. She developed this big political conscience about the House elves. Well, she wanted to go her own way, and for two chapters, she just went wandering off. I just let her do it and then I scrapped two chapters and kept a few bits. That I liked. That’s the most trouble anyone’s ever given me, but it was fun so I gave her her head."
• Hermione’s birthday is the 19th of September.
• JKR "always planned that Hermione would have a younger sister but she's never made an appearance and somehow it feels like it might be too late now."
• Hermione’s middle name is Jane. (Just like Umbrige, lol)

From that moment on, Herminone Granger was their friend. There are some things in life that you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountai troll is one of them.
